Finnegan lives in a world where dogs have their own villages, kingdoms, and countries. Finnegan grew up in an orphanage. He had few friends there, but one of them was a thief. He took the heat for his friend in that moment because Finn thought friendship was the most important thing at the time. He kept his friend, but had his toe cut off to mark him a thief. However, his friend soon got caught--not by the law but by criminals and was promptly killed.
Then, he moved into a village, but because he was marked as a thief, nobody trusted him. Finn tried his very best and thought he had noble wishes. Soon, his village was drafted to a war, but the thief couldn't go. Nobody would trust a thief and Finn always sought to prove himself. But was never good enough to outrun his reputation.
Finney heard of a legend about a sorcerer who could grant any wish. He looked everywhere and when he asked around, he was laughed at. When he was lost in the mountains, Finney found a wise hermit with one magic eye. This hermit didn't see a thief because he could see the truth. "There's rules to magic," the hermit said with a smile. "Learn them well." He took his magical eye out of his head and gave it to Finn. "You'll do this better than I ever could."
Unlike the last one who had the eye, Finney always comes when called, eager to have someone to trust him enough to make their wishes come true.
